Saga of an Asus Eee User - Day 2
When I am at home, I always hook my laptop up to my 20 Dell monitor. So I thought I would start out on day 2 of my Asus Eee 8G experience by hooking it up to my monitor. When I hooked it up, I noticed that it was still using the same resolution as on the display. Since I was still in Easy mode at this point, I clicked the settings tab, then selected the `Desktop Mode` icon.
This allows you to select if you want to use both displays, only the external or only the internal. You can also select whether to have the resolution automatically adjust or to manually set the resolution. Well, I know that the automatic didn’t change the resolution, so I selected manual and changed the settings to 1024×768. On my personal desktop, ‘Dell XPS’, I have the resolution set on 1920×1200. It was very hard to adjust to the Eee resolution, but hooking up the external display and using the 1024×768 settings seemed like such a great improvement. I didn’t think I would ever be able to go back to a 1024×768, but I was wrong.
After getting the external display working, I wanted to change the settings so that I would always boot into Advanced mode. So back on the settings tab, I selected the Personalization icon. I just selected the `Full Desktop Mode` at the bottom. To verify that this really worked, I went ahead and rebooted. And yes, it booted into the Full desktop `Advanced` mode.
I had to change my desktop settings again for the external display. If anyone knows how to make the settings permanent, please reply to this post. Then I just surfed the web for the next hour or so and got caught up on reading all the rss feeds that I subscribe to. After that I shut down and took it to my parents house. Needless to say, my mom loved the thing and found it extremely easy to use. I only had her in Easy mode, but it is intuitive enough that she was able to get online and play a few games. Now I guess I will get her one for her birthday.
Tomorrow I will be installing Eclipse and the plugin for Aptana. I will use this to build a new theme for this site to prove you can do just about anything with the Asus Eee.
